Thinking Outloud

Wow I can’t believe there is only one more week until the camping season officially opens. Yes, it’s still a little cold here at night time for camping, but as long as you have a good heater and a camper, you really should make out OK. The weekend of May 19 is a long weekend around here with the kids being home from school Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so we are planning on taking our first camping trip that weekend. So because it’s only a couple of weeks away, I have to start digging out all our camping supplies, sleeping bags and curtains. The end of the season last year I took everything out, washed it all up and put it all away. So the start of this season all I need to do is dig out the stuff and put it in the trailer. I can’t wait.

I finally made the decision. I have decided that I am going to book my flight to California and go visit my cousin for the very first time in my life. We usually see one another every four years, but it is always her that ends up traveling here to Canada. I have found some real cheap tickets for Flights to USA and I am taking the plunge and going to do this.

Now that I have finally made up my mind, I am quite anxious to go travelling. There are so many things to see and do in California and I can’t wait to try them all out. Through dialaflight.com I will be able to get some inexpensive tickets. And if I wasn’t staying with my cousin they would also help me with hotel accommodations as well as car rentals. Hopefully during my stay my cousin and I can go out together (just the two of us) for just one day of sightseeing, fun and relaxation. Now that I’ve made up my mind, I can’t wait to get going.

My daughter was invited to a girl’s 11th birthday party.  It seems to me like the older kids get the harder they are to buy for.  This is especially true for kids that I don’t really know.  I know what my daughter is in to (and she’s 9), but I have no clue what this child is into or even what types of things she already has.  So we bought her a game of trouble.  You really can’t go wrong with board games.  And even if she did already own this game, pieces get lost of wrecked so they can always use a spare.  This is the first present that I have had to purchase for a child that is over the age of 8 that I don’t really know and let me tell you it was a hard choice to make.  I can’t wait until the kids start getting older and older.  I think then I will be sticking with gift cards.

Although I am an almost 40 year old married woman, one of the things in life that I just absolutely love doing to unwind from a very long and stressful day is to play Online Games. My daughter sure has a lot of plans to keep me busy. Right now she is involved with the school choir, the running club and the violin. But this is not where her wishes end. She wants to join the summer soccer program, play lacrosse and join some type of dance. The dance she could probably do as it is the least expensive of the all the activities. I have checked into it and except for purchasing some bodystockings all we would need to do would be to pay the dance fees. But since summer is still a little ways off, I’m sure when the time comes, she will have changed her mind and decided that she wants to do something else instead.

On March 31, my father-in-law will be turning 70. This is going to be a very difficult birthday for him this year as this will be the first year that he has celebrated his birthday without my mother-in-law. So because he is turning 70 and the fact that this will be a difficult time for him, I want to buy him something special to mark this day. I have decided to purchase him a Seiko Watch. The kids have been invited to a birthday party afternoon.  We are going, but this really isn’t a party I am looking forward to.  The party is for a one year old that obviously the kids don’t play with (they are 7 and 9).  But, they are our neighbors so that is why I’m taking the kids over. 

The one thing I don’t understand is why do some parents insist on inviting every child in the neighborhood even if the kids aren’t friends or don’t play together.  I have to wonder if this mother expects that when it’s my kids birthdays that I will invite her kids to their parties.  I don’t really think that is going to happen.  But, the kids did hear her invatation and they do want to go, but I think this will be the last one of these kinds of birthday parties that they will be attending.

Having two young kids at home, it’s starting to get pretty expensive for all the birthday parties that they get invited to. One of the kids is in grade 4 and the other is in grade 2 and both get invited to a lot of birthday parties in the run of a year. Then you have to account for neighbors parties and family birthdays as well. This can begin to get quite expensive as you need to purchase a gift, a gift bag or wrapping paper and a card. Well March break for the kids is almost over.  Only today and tomorrow left and then everyone will be back to work and school.  And yes, that means me as well.  Having the kids home for the past week has been “fun”, but I haven’t really been able to keep on my working from home schedule with them around.  We’ve been doing a few things as a family and they have been keeping me busy, so my crafting and Internet activities have slowed down quite a bit.  But hey, that’s what March break is for right??

So, come Monday morning I will put them both back on that school bus and then I will get back to doing what I should be doing.  But the break was nice for all of us.  I just wish my husband could have gotten some extra time off to enjoy this time with the family.  Oh well, our batteries are recharged and now were all ready to get back to business.
