The rising cost of education

Published by User ImageKim under kids, School

I can’t completely understand why it costs so darn much to put your kids through school.  Not only do you need to purchase new school clothes and books at the beginning of the year, but there are tons of expenses that come up during the school year.  It’s bad enough that you have to pay this all out for one child, but if you have two or three in the school system, you could end up broke.  The kids have only been in school for less than three weeks and it’s starting to cost us a fortune.  First of all you need to purchase the books, supplies and clothes.  Next you have student fees and agendas.  If that isn’t enough then comes out requests for money for trips, school lunches and school books.  Sometimes we have a difficult time dishing out all this money, so I can just imagine what it’s like for someone who doesn’t have a whole lot of spare cash, or for someone who has three or four kids in the school system.

Life goes on

Published by User ImageKim under life

Well after the stressful and hectic week we had last week, I have discovered that life does indeed go on.  Today the kids went back to school and my husband went back to work.  So, it’s time for me to get back into my routine.  I have a lot of housework that needs to be done.  So much of it got neglected last week.  This afternoon I need to go out and get some groceries and I need to spend a little more time online.  So even though there is still sorrow in our home, life does go on and I know my husband’s mother would want us to continue on with life.

Sad day…..today

Published by User ImageKim under family

Last night my mother in law passed away from cancer.  So it’s pretty sad at our house today.  She was diagnosed with stomach cancer two years ago.  She fought so hard to get better, but finally in the end she just didn’t have any more fight left in her.  Although it is a very sad time in our lives right now, the sense of relief of knowing that she isn’t suffering any more and that she is now in peace in very present.  We did not tell the kids yet.  We let them go to school this morning and when they get home this afternoon I will have to tell them.  I have to say that I’m not looking forward to this at all as they are still so small and don’t really understand the concept of death and they were very close to grammie.  But, it’s something that needs to be done and I’m sure that somehow we will all get through this.

Becoming a freelancer

Published by User ImageKim under internet income

I have been blogging for about seven months now and am seriously loving it!  Not only do I have the opportunity to share a lot of things with you all, but I have started working with a few companies that have enabled me to earn a little income in the process.  But, I enjoy a challenge, and lately I  haven’t really felt like I’m being challenged.  So, I have made a decision to try to become a freelance writer.  I have been checking out different opportunities and sites in regards to this matter.  I have discovered that there is a lot of opportunities on the Internet for freelance writers like myself to earn a pretty decent income.  So, for the next few days, I will be checking out different sites and different opportunities to see if I can make a go out of this.

If there are any freelancer writers that come in here, I would love to hear your feedback on this matter.

I feel so helpless.

Published by User ImageKim under family

As you all know, my husband’s mother is now in the palliative care unit at our local hospital and her condition is deteriorating each day.  I feel so helpless as to how to help my husband through this.  He is understandably extremely sad, but there is nothing I can say or do that can help him feel better.  I realize that her time is near and so does he, but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier to accept.  So, I guess the only thing I can do is what I am currently doing by just letting him know I am there for him and I will continue to be there for him.  It is an extremely sad situation, and if there was anything at all I could do to make him feel better, I would.  Unfortunately for him and me there isn’t, so I guess I just have to be content knowing that he knows I would help if I could.

Help with reading

Published by User ImageKim under kids, School

Last year it was determined by the school that my youngest son was reading below grade level. So, I had to check out different programs to get him some help in this area. I found an awesome program that utilizes Reading Tutors to help children in this area. After enrolling him in the Score Learning center, he was able to bring his reading skills up to grade level. This program help children from the age of 4 to 14 with any problems they may be having in their academic studies. This program worked so well for him last year that if I see any indication at all this year that he is having problems, I will definitely be enrolling him in this again.

It’s going to be a great year!

Published by User ImageKim under kids, School

Well as you all know (especially if your a parent), yesterday was the first day back to school of all the kids.  I have to say if the discussions I had last night with my two younger kids are any indication, this year is going to be a great year for the kids!  They both arrived home tired but very satisfied with their first day of school.  It seems that both their teachers are really nice and they actually got a personal welcome back from the principal and vice principal.  I’m not sure this is a good thing that the principal and the vice principal know both kids by site and name.   LOL  But with the school year in full swing, if the rest of the year continues to make them as happy about school as yesterday did, then I know there will be no real major issues this year.

Final day of summer vacation

Published by User ImageKim under kids

This is it guys.  The final day of summer vacation for the kids.  Starting tomorrow morning I will have my house back.  At this point, I don’t know who is more anxious for tomorrow to get here.  Me or the kids.  My daughter is quite excited to go back, my son not so much.  But whether they want to go back or not, tomorrow will be here soon enough.  So tomorrow morning we will get them ready for school, I will drive them to school for their first day, and then the rest of the day is my own.  I have no clue what I will do while I’m on my own, but I’m sure to think of something.

Any other parents out there who are as excited as I am to see this day finally arrive?
