Visit with grammie

Published by Kim under family, kids

On Friday my mother-in-law was placed in palliative care.  We were a little concerned about taking the kids to see her in this type of condition, but they miss her so much that we thought we would give it a try and see how they reacted.  They did really good and now I am glad that we did decide to take them.  I’ve got to tell you that it was probably one of the funniest visits we ever had with her.  She had a lot of pain medication in her so she really wasn’t herself, but she was really funny.  Every time I tried to talk to her she just kept smiling at me.  She didn’t say anything, just smiled.  And, she was throwing her stuffed animal at my youngest son.  He couldn’t for the life of him figure out how this dog was getting out of her bed and hitting him.  She is extremely weak, but she was trying in the only way she could to play with the kids.  They had a good visit and we will be taking them in again to see her.  I really think it helps them and her to spend this time together.

Good friends are hard to come by

Published by Kim under crafts, friends

I don’t have a whole lot of good friends, but the ones that I do have, I have for life.  It’s not that I don’t know a lot of people or don’t get along with a lot of people, it’s just that I usually only get close to some people.  One of my friends that I don’t talk to a whole lot really came through for me today.  I called her up to give her the latest update on my husband’s mother and before I even had to ask she came right out with an offer to watch the kids if I needed her.   I was extremely touched by her generous offer.  It just goes to show you who your real friends are even when you don’t think that they are that good of friends.

The trip to the dentist

Published by Kim under health, kids

My youngest son has been complaining about having a tooth ache so I made him an appointment and today was the day that he visited the dentist.  To say that his trip was not a very pleasant one is putting it mildly.  First of all his has an infected tooth so this is why he has been having his tooth ache.  So they gave him antibiotics and he will need to take these for five days.

But, the worst news is that he needs to go for dental surgery.  I feel so bad for him as he is only seven and I can just imagine the pain he is going to have to go through.  He needs to get seven teeth filled and five pulled (for some reason he has no enamel on his teeth).  The good thing is that right now he doesn’t completely understand what they are going to do to him so he at least doesn’t have to sit around for a couple of months worrying about all this.  I get to do the worrying for him.  I realize this is something he needs to have done to avoid further pain in the future, but it doesn’t make me feel any better for him.

More bad news

Published by Kim under family

Last night our worst fears were confirmed.  My husband’s mother is in the hospital right now.  She is very sick with cancer.  When she first went in, we thought it was just another routine visit.  She hadn’t been eating properly and had been losing weight, so we thought she was put in to build her system back up again like so many times before.  But, it looks like this may be the last time she will be admitted.  In the next few days, she will be moved to the palliative care unit.  As I have just been through this with my own father, I know what this means.  My husband is very upset right now and I fell so helpless as to help him.  I know he probably felt the same way when I was going through this with my dad.  But, it’s not good anyway you look at it.

Like father…like son

Published by Kim under family, entertainment

My husband is a mechanic by trade, so therefore a lot of his hobbies include anything to do with mechanics, cars, and bikes.  The types of magazines he reads are car and bike magazines.  His youngest son is turning out just like him.  On the weekend my husband bought a four wheeler magazine and when he was finished reading it, my son asked him if he could read it.  As he is only just going in grade 2, he really couldn’t read it, but he sure enjoyed looking at the pictures.  He then wanted to discuss every picture he seen in the magazine.  It was cute watching the two of them.  And now I think he may follow in his father footsteps and become a car and bike nut.
